My 2025 Challenge to Read 25 Books
I grew up in a family where books were ALWAYS allowed. I always had a book in my hand. I buy a lot of books to this day.
So much so, that the Amazon delivery people know me far too well.
But my 2025 confession is? These days, I don’t read them. I pile them up on shelves, with the intention of reading them.
Why do I read less now? Because I use my phone/iPad/Netflix/social media more. Decades of tech means I have been constantly bombarded by notifications, and distractions, and my attention span has been affected. I have “too many tabs open”, and it isn’t conducive to losing yourself in a book. I read many things daily – news, articles, documents. I put my phone down – I have turned off the notifications. But I am struggling to read books, and I don’t want to lose the art of reading a book. (I use audible, and I don’t want to read books on a device).
So, I am pledging to read at least 25 books in 2025. January is a miserable month for new habits (in my opinion – good for you if you started something in January!).
I am starting now it’s February, and in the spirit of accountability, I am announcing this publicly and asking – would you like to join me in my quest?
11 of my intended books (a book a month Feb – December) will be about work/business, and the first one I have selected off my shelf is “The Checklist Manifesto” by Atul Gawande. I mean, I write Checklists – so it’s a no brainer to start here.
Here is the link to the Amazon page if you are interested in joining me reading this month’s book https://amzn.eu/d/ienYXIu (I don’t get money for the recommendation).
In March, I will post a short summary of The Checklist Manifesto, and announce my book for March!
Bring on the reading. Ask me about my reading if we have a meeting! Keep me accountable all year. I am experimenting and I am pretty sure ‘future me’ will be delighted I decided to break away from the online habits. You never know – I might spectacularly fail or announce that books are “so 20th Century”!
